Situated on a dramatic headland overlooking the royal blue Arabian Sea, Al Husn, meaning The Castle, is a palatial hotel offering exceptional levels of service and luxury. Built to resemble an ancient Omani fort, the Al Husn is the most exclusive of the three hotels making up the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, which lies in 124 acres of verdant landscaped gardens against a rugged mountain backdrop. The Al Husn is set around a central courtyard with fountains and palms, and the richness and warmth of the traditional Dhofari architecture leaves the visitor in no doubt of the lavishness awaiting within. In fact, visitors are excited even before they arrive, as they travel through a tunnel in the mountains, to arrive at the breathtaking hotel entrance with its massive gateway over reflecting waters. From the soaring hotel lobby, sensuous arches offer views of the fountain-lined courtyard, and the infinity-edged pool set against the sea.
Although guests of the hotel have access to all the facilities of the three hotels of the resort, including the Chi Spa, the facilities of the hotel itself are exclusive to Al Husn guests. These include the secluded 100-metre private beach, the beautiful and soothing infinity pool, the fitness centre, and the library. Guests of Al Husn are free to dine at any of the resort's 19 restaurants, bars and cafés, but the hotel features two restaurants of its own -- Sultanah, and Shahrazad. Sultanah offers a unique and stylish à la carte culinary experience, imaginatively presented to resemble the interior of a luxury cruise liner, displaying stunning views of the sea. Menus each evening vary according to the location of the port of call on the cruise itinerary for that day. Shahrazad is the only authentic Moroccan restaurant in Muscat, and offers exquisite traditional Moroccan cuisine in an elegant contemporary setting.
Al Husn also features a stylish lobby lounge, which is in fact one of Muscat's premier meeting places. This is where afternoon teas and pre-dinner cocktails and canapés can be taken, as well as light snacks throughout the day.
