St Regis Saadiyat Island
Occupying its magnificent position overlooking Saadiyat Beach, the exclusive St Regis Saadiyat Island maintains the kind of refined elegance that is characteristic of the St Regis brand, but with an extra contemporary twist. The beach is so sublime that Hawksbill turtles nest there, and bottlenose dolphins play in the clear, clam waters, yet Saadiyat Island is fast being transformed into the cultural centre of the Arab world, and the resort is part of the transformation. Built ziggurat-style and rising to 8 storeys, it is reminiscent of a grand Mediterranean villa, and despite its 380 rooms, its Mediterranean architecture makes it appear welcoming rather than overwhelming.
Inside, the contemporary Mediterranean theme continues throughout, mingled with Arabian influences, and enhanced by the use of local products and elements. The overall palette has strong connections to the island, and is light and airy, making use of natural and earthy shapes like sea shells and sand roses. In the grand, soaring lobby, the sound of piano music immediately transports arriving guests to a world of opulence and leisure.
The St Regis has a wide range of sophisticated dining options, spanning the world's most delectable cuisines, as well as plenty of lounges for informal drinks and snacks. The main all-day restaurant, Oléa, with both indoor and outdoor options, is Mediterranean inspired, and features live cooking stations where staff wait to cater to guests' every whim. Those who fancy a more intimate and romantic setting can visit the floating pavilions of Sontaya, to enjoy south-east Asian fare among a series of interconnected pools and ponds.
The resort's signature venue, the 55&5th The Grill, is inspired by the location of the original St Regis New York Grill and Lounge. With private dining rooms, and live jazz and classical music, guests can enjoy a true Manhattan-style experience, amidst soft blue lights and bubble chandeliers. Later in the evening, this can be complemented by the resort's signature Bloody Mary - the Arabian Snapper - in the Manhattan Lounge, while a seductive selection of hand-made chocolates, and luscious pastries and cakes, can be savoured at the Sucré Patisserie.
