Among the many attractions of this hotel, the truly stand-out feature is the astonishing marine life that surrounds it, so rich that Baa Atoll, in which it is located, has gained the status of the Maldives' first and only UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Not only is the island completely encircled by a vibrant live-coral reef complete with under-water caves, accessible from the beach, where dolphins and sea turtles are a common sight, but only 10 minutes away by speedboat is Hanifaru Huraa, one of the world's best feeding grounds for whale sharks and giant manta rays. As well as regular excursions to Hanifaru, enabling you to swim with these amazing creatures, there are dolphin cruises, big-game fishing trips, and excursions within Baa Atoll for spotting more of the incredible under-water diversity, including the "Finding Nemo" clown-fish, and shoals of banner-fish and trevallies. 

Inland, you can walk, or ride a bicycle, around the resort along shady rustic-wood pathways that wind through the lush jungle interior. The centrepiece is the vast beachfront infinity pool, said to be the largest in the Maldives, built round an ancient banyan tree that grows in its centre. The award-winning Devanara Spa features six elevated treatment pods, hidden at tree-top level in a grove of coconut palms, and accessed by a sky bridge.

Each of the three outstanding restaurants is carefully located for its magnificent views, and the seafood eatery Sea Grill, poolside with a glass wine cellar, even provides you with a telescope to star-gaze at night. The main restaurant The Market offers buffets that span the globe, including a spectacular breakfast presentation, while the signature Thai restaurant Benjarong, jutting out over the sea, serves delicious authentic Thai cuisine. However, with the resort's Borderless Dining concept, you can arrange meals anywhere you choose -- on a sandbank, on the beach, or even in the lagoon, with the chairs and table in the water.
