The Grand Hotel is the most luxurious of the four hotels in the IBEROSTAR complex, and while the smallest in terms of rooms, is the largest and most spacious in size.
The hotel building is an architectural masterpiece, looking like a palace in Graeco-Roman design, with an abundance of columns and arches, and perfumed interiors full of marble and elegant furnishings. At the entrance, a sprawling circular driveway leads to an imposing marble archway, and beyond this the beautiful lobby area circles round an outdoor courtyard. In the red carpeted front desk area, guests are welcomed with arrival drinks.
In front of the lobby is some outdoor seating, overlooking a decorative lagoon with palms and walkways, its most remarkable feature being a full-size three-mast Spanish Galleon for live music and late-night drinks. To the right of the lobby, a footpath leads to the shops and restaurants, a cigar bar, and the buffet, while to the left is the business area and the Milanese-inspired La Scala Theatre. The guestrooms are located in a four-storey structure that surrounds this whole area.
From both sides of the lobby, there are paths to the three pools, the main one with a swim-up bar, two whirlpools, and the wide stretch of beach. Scattered around the beach and by the pool there are comfortable lounge chairs, daybeds and palapas, and attendants provide a drinks service by the pools and on the beach. There are teak decks winding through the manicured gardens, where hummingbirds flit amid tropical flowers, and flamingos roam freely.
The hotel offers a tempting range of culinary options, with five à la carte restaurants, allowing guests to delight in a wide range of international choices, including the romantic La Tentazione, offering Italian fare by candlelight, or the themed El Galeón Surf and Turf Restaurant. At The Hashira, you can savour Japanese cuisine in an oriental setting, while Le Tourbillon serves gourmet menus in delightful surroundings. You can also enjoy Mediterranean fusion food on the beach at the Casa de la Playa, and there are two buffet restaurants as well - the Bella Vista, the main restaurant, and La Perla near the beach, for lunch and daytime snacks.
The range of activities on offer at the Grand Hotel is amazing, and includes archery, tennis, tai-chi and yoga, a variety of water sports such as sailing and scuba diving lessons, wind-surfing and water skiing, and even cookery lessons by the sea. There is fabulous tw-storey spa, and a stunning P.B. Dye 18-hole golf course, with a unique design characterised by holes placed in cross winds and steep undulations - there's a free round for anyone staying three nights or more. And when the sun goes down, there are live performances at the La Scala Theatre, dancing and live music at the ship, and four bars for late-night cocktails.
